A reduction of 20% in the price of sugar enables a housewife to purchase 6 kg more for Rs. 240. What is original price per kg of sugar.
A. Rs. 10 per Kg
B. Rs. 8 per Kg
C. Rs. 6 per Kg
D. Rs. 5 per Kg
Answer: Option A
Solution(By Examveda Team)
It is based on inverse proportion or product constancy concept. Reduction in price 20% amount of sugar will increase 25%It means,
25% = 6 Kg. So,
Initially, total Sugar = 6 × 4 = 24Kg. Thus,
Original price of the sugar was,
$$\frac{{240}}{{24}}$$ = Rs. 10 per kg.
Note:
Let initial price of 100 kg Sugar was Rs. 100.
Now, 20% decrease in rate then rate of 100 kg sugar would be Rs. 80.
So,
Rs. 80 = 100 kg sugar.
Rs. 1 = $$\frac{{100}}{{80}}$$ kg sugar.
Rs. 100 = $$\frac{{100 \times 100}}{{80}}$$ = 125 Kg sugar.
Increment in sugar = 25 kg.
% increment = $$\frac{{25 \times 100}}{{100}}$$ = 25%.
Means 20% rate decrease, 25% of consumption increase.

Fraction value of 20% is 1/5
and decrement in price means
Previous price : New price
5 : 4
When we change the ratio of price, then we get the ratio of consumption
so the ratio of the consumption will become
Previous consumption : New consumption
4 : 5
In ratio the difference between 4 and 5 is 1 and in reality the difference is 6 kg
so the previous consumption was (6*4)= 24 kg
and the new consumption is (6*5) = 30 kg
To calculate the previous price
240/24 =10 ₹/kg
To calculate the new price
240/30 = 8 ₹/kg
Price= 5:4
Consumption=4:5
1 part= 6kg
Initial kg =24(6*4)
So. 240₹/24kg=₹10
Let, Original price=100
20% discount new price=100-20=80
New price 80 original price 100
New price 240 original price=240*100/80=300
save =300-240=60
so, 6kg's price 60
1 kg's price=60/6=10
let price is x
new price is 4x/5
240/(4x/5)-240/x=6
x=10
A shopkeeper makes a profit of 25% on selling sugar if now he reduce the price by 10% which allows the costumer to buy 3 kg more sugar for Rs 270 find the new profit of the shopkeeper( in rs)?
@ md helal how uhh should write qnty as 4:5
20% = 1/5
Old : New = 4 : 5 (Quantity)
Increase% = (1*100)/4 = 25% (Quantity)
ATQ, 25% ≡ 6
Then 100% ≡ (6*100)/25 = 24 kg
So, Orginal price = 240/24 = 10 Tk.
Solved by : MD.Helal Uddin
Old : New = 5 : 4 (Price)
Old : New = 4 : 5 (Quantity) or 24 : 30 (Gap 6 )
So original price = 240/24 = 10

what we do... if we don't know the decrease percentage?

Your answer is here
Let initially,
100kg = 100 rs
After increment of 25% in price
100 kg = 125 rs
100/125kg = 1rs
(100/125)×100kg = 100rs
100rs = 80kg
It means that 20% reduction in quantity of sugar
And according to question value of 20% is equal to 5 kg which means that initially 25kg of sugar was purchased at 800rs
Now, 800/25 = 32rs This is the original price of sugar.
Now new price of sugar is 800/20 = 40rs
And 12kg of sugar was bought at original price i.e. 32×12 = 384 rs

A shopkeeper makes a. Profit of 25% on selling sugar if now he reduce the price by 10% which allow the customer to buy 3 kg more sugar for rs. 270 find the new profit of the shopkeeper?
Let initial price was Rs. x per kg.
250g = 0.25 kg.
Now,
270/0.9x - 270/x= 0.25kg
300/x - 270/x = 0.25
(300 - 270) = 0.25x
0.25x = 30
x = 120.
Initial price was Rs. 120 per kg.

Let Rs 240 = X Kg sugar initially
Now 80% of Rs 240= 192= X kg now after reduction in price
=> 240= X*240/192= 5X/4
A/Q 5X/4 -X = 6kg => X= 24Kg
=> So Initial rate of sugar 240/24= 10per kg & rate after reduction in price
= 192/24= Rs 8 per kg

AN INCREASE OF 20% IN PRICE OF SUGAR MAKES HOUSEWIFE GET 2 KG LESS FOR RS 144 WHAT IS THE PRICE OF SUGAR BEFORE INCREASE?
25% sugar = 6 Kg.
1% = 6/25%
100% sugar = (6*100%)/25% = 6*4 = 24 kg.
Why did you multiply by 4?
can u explain the concept.how the reduction in price 20% amount of sugar will increase 25%???????
Let suppose I want to buy a certain amount of sugar at rs240 every month.
I am a small boy so I dont understand calculation I just put money to shopkeeper and he gave me sugar.
This time when I went there he told me that purchasing that amount of sugar enable me a return gift of rs48(20% of 240) as the price of sugar is decrease.
I told him to gave sugar instead of money and he gave me 6kg of sugar.
Now, in that 6kg I get rs 48
in 1kg I get rs8
that is nowadays price of sugar is 8rs/kg.
let initial price of sugar is x rs per kg then
reduction in 20% of initial price results in price of 8rs/kg
therefore
x-(20/100)x=8
(4/5)x=8
x=40/4=10rs/kg
That`s it.
Let the original price be 10x Rs per kg (You can have any value 10 or 100)
New price = 8x Rs per kg
240/8x - 240/10x = 6
MULTIPLY BY 40x (LCM)
1200 - 960 = 240x
240 = 240x
x = 1
10x = Rs 10 per kg ANSWER
20% of 240/- is 48 /-
Therefore we get 6kg sugar by 48/-
Then
48=6kg
? =1kg
Then 1kg price is 8/- ( reduction price )
Original price:
100% = ?
80% = 8/- ( bcoz in question he gives 20% reduction)
There fore (100÷80)*8 = 10/-
