A warehouse had a square floor with are 10,000 sq.meters. A rectangular addition was built along one entire side of the warehouse that increased the floor by one-half as much as the original floor. How many meters did the addition extend beyond the original building?

Solution(By Examveda Team)

Area of warehouse = 10,000 sq. m
Side of square = L
Area = 10,000

L^2 = 10,000

L = 100 m
After addition its increases one-half.
i.e. one side become = 100 + 50 = 150 m
Increase = 50 m.

    L*B=10000 ie for square L=B=100m
    THEN,
    IF A RECTANGULAR ADDITIONALLY WAS BUILT ALONG ONE ENTIRE SIDE IT ENSURES THAT ONE SIDE MUST BE REMAIN SAME AS THE SQUARE
    HENCE EQUATION BECOMES
    (100+X)100=10000+(1/2)*10000
    (100+X)100=15000
    X=50

    Yes, Kabir, You are correct. First time, I was calculated the increase in Area but your actual question is asking about increase in side which 50m and increase in area would be 5,000 sq. m.
