Due to an increase in 30% in the price of eggs, 3 eggs less are available for Rs. 7.80. Find the present rate of eggs per dozen.

A. Rs. 9.36

B. Rs. 10.36

C. Rs. 11.36

D. Rs. 12.36

Solution(By Examveda Team)

Let Original price per Egg was X.

Increased Price = X + 30% of X = 1.3X
Now,

(7.80/X ) - (7.80 /1.3X) = 3

On solving, we get,

X = 0.6
Price per egg was Rs. 0.6 .
Present price = 1.3X = 1.3 * 0.6
Present price for 12 eggs = 1.3 * 0.6 * 12 = Rs. 9.36.

    shortcut:
    cost price increased by 30%,
therefore old price of one egg : new price of one egg => 10:13
ratio of No. of eggs that can be bought for rs.7.80 is
    (7.80/10) : (7.80/13) = 13:10
difference 3 is equivalent to 3 (less number eggs mentioned in question)
=> for new price, 10 eggs can be bought for rs.7.80, therefore 12 eggs will cost 9.36.
