The cost of pure milk is Rs 16 per liter. On adding water, the mixture is sold at Rs 15 per liter. In this way, the milkman earns 25% profit. What is the ratio of milk and water in the mixture?
A. 25 : 7
B. 7 : 25
C. 15 : 1
D. 1 : 15
E. None of these
Solution(By Examveda Team)
Let X is the cost of pure Milk. Then,
Cost of Misture,
X + 25% of X = 15
100X + 25X = 15*100
125X = 15 *100
X = (15 *100)/125 = Rs. 12.
So, Milk of Rs. 12 sold at Rs. 15.
Part of Milk buyer gets in 12,
In Rs. 16 = 1 lit milk.
So, in 12 = 12/16 = 3/4 part milk he gets and 1/3 part water.
Therefore ratio Milk : water
3/4 : 1/3
= 3 : 1.

Consider CP=16 for him to get 25% profit hes to sell the milk at 20/L but as he is selling at 15/L so he is putting on 3/4L of milk and the remaining is water which is 1/4 Therefore the ratio comes out to be 3:1.
Normally he can sell it for 16 * 125/100 =20 per liter
but selling for Rs 15 .5/15 as water
ie, 1/3 water. so.water : milk = 3:1
None of these
E) None of these. The answer is 3:1 .
The equation is like this.
16x=15(x+y)*100/125 [Where quantity of milk=x and water=y]
