The sum of numerator and denominator is 26. If 2 is subtracted from numerator and 6 is added to denominator,then the fraction becomes 1/5 . What is the original fraction.

A. 3/8

B. 2/7

C. 5/25

D. 7/19

Answer: Option D

Solution(By Examveda Team)

Let numerator is X and Denominator is Y.
X + Y = 26 --------------- (1)
Now,
(X - 2 )/(Y +6) = 1/5
5X - 10 = Y + 6
5X - Y = 16 ------------------- (2)
Adding equation (1) and (2)
X + Y + 5X - Y = 26 + 16
6X = 42
X = 7
So, Y = 26 - X = 26 - 7 = 19.
Thus, Fraction = X/Y = 7/19.
