To provide legal aid for the people living in rural areas, the Union Government on 11 June 2017 launched 'Tele Law' service. Under the service, the legal aid will be provided through video conferencing to marginalised communities of rural areas. The first phase of the Tele-Law will be rolled out in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh to understand the challenges and make necessary corrections to the scheme before it is scaled up and rolled out across the country.

 

2. (b) Soumitra Chatterjee
The French government honoured Bengali Actor Soumitra Chatterjee with its highest civilian decoration Legion d’ Honneur. He is the only Indian recipient in the 2017 list. Soumitra Chatterjee will be the 33rd Indian and second Bengali after Satyajit Ray, who was awarded with the French government top civilian award in 1987.

3. (d) Latvia 
Jelena Ostapenko on 10 June 2017 grabbed her first ever grand slam title by beating the match favourite, third-seeded Simona Halep in the final of French Open 2017. The Latvian, after losing the first set 4-6, made a stunning comeback with two straight wins 6-4 and 6-3, making way for one of the biggest Grand Slam upsets. With the win, she became the first person from her country to ever win a Grand Slam singles title.

The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) has announced taking over the management of the Sahara India Life Insurance Company. Insurance regulator, IRDAI in an order issued in New Delhi on 12 June 2017 said that Subrata Roy run insurer was "acting in a manner" prejudicial to interest of subscribers.

Queensland-based Professor Rajiv Khanna received the Officer of the Order of Australia Medal for his work in medicine -- specifically his contribution to the development of cellular immunotherapies for the treatment of cancers, infectious complications and chronic disease. Unnikrishnan Velayudhan Pilla from Queensland was awarded the medal of the Order of Australia in the general division (OAM) for service to the Malayali community in the state.

10. (c) Leo Varadkar
Leo Varadkar, a 38-year-old Indian-origin doctor, on 15 June 2017 scripted history by becoming Ireland's youngest Prime Minister. Leo Varadkar, the country's first Indian-origin premier, officially took over from Enda Kenny as Taoiseach, as the Irish prime ministerial title is known, after a parliamentary vote in Dublin confirmed him as the leader by 57 votes to 50, with 47 abstentions.

The Nalanda University signed MoU with South Korea’s Academy of Korean Studies for academic linkages and collaborations in Patna, Bihar. As per the MoU, both the universities will increase their bilateral ties through joint research programmes, faculty and student exchange, mutual sharing of data, academic research/education, joint teaching & cooperation in other areas.

Delhi Metro Railway Corporation (DMRC) Principal Adviser E. Sreedharan was bestowed with the 2017 Nanniyode Rajan Memorial Award for his contributions to the development of the country. The award consists of a cash prize of Rs 25000 and a trophy.

Sultan, the 2016 Indian romantic sports-drama film starring Salman Khan and Anushka Sharma and directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, has been shortlisted to compete in one of the categories at the Shanghai International Film Festival this June.  The film has been selected in the Jackie Chan Action Movie Week section where awards are given by the combined means of judge assessment and audience vote.
