A man can row 4 km/hr in still water. If the river is running at 2 km/hr, it takes 6 hours to row to a place and back. How far the place?
Solution(By Examveda Team)
ANSWER = 9 km.Let the distance be x km from initial.
Total time taken = Time taken along upstream + Time taken in downstream.
Speed of boat in upstream = 4 - 2 = 2 km/hr
Speed of boat in downstream = 4 + 2 = 6 km/hr
∴ 6 = x / 6 + x / 2
∴ 6 = 4 * x / 6
∴ x = 9 km.
So the place if 9 km far away from initial position.
