A solution of salt and water contains 30% salt, 225 liter water is evaporated and now percentage of salt in solution becomes 60%. find the initial quantity of solution?

A. 750 litre

B. 300 litre

C. 500 litre

D. 450 litre

Solution(By Examveda Team)

Let Mixture was X initially.
Initial Salt = 30% of X = 0.30X.
Initial Water = 70% of X = 0.70X.
250 liter of water evaporated.
So, Final water = (0.70X - 225).
Now, salt rises to 60% of the mixture, it means as water dried up salt rises.

Now, Total Mixture = (0.70X -225 + 0.30X).
Final salt = 60% of(0.70X - 225 + 0.30X)
As, Initial Amount of salt = Final amount of salt, we have,

0.3X = 60% of(0.70X - 225 + 0.30X)
0.3X = 0.6X - 135.
Or, 0.3X = 135.
Thus, X = 450.
Initial amount of the mixture was 450 liter.
