Many members of this genus inhabit tunnels of wood-boring beetles where they feed on fungi Bursaphelenchus.
The term woodboring beetle encompasses many species and families of beetles whose larval or adult forms eat and destroy wood. In the woodworking industry, the larval stages of some are sometimes referred to as woodworms.
To develop and reach maturity woodboring beetles need nutrients provided by fungi from outside of the inhabited wood.
Bursaphelenchus is a genus of nematodes (roundworms) in the order Aphelenchida.
