A train after travelling 50kms meets with an accident and then proceeds at 3/4th of its former speed and arrives at its destination 35 minutes late. Had the accident occured 24kms further, it would have reached the destination only 25 minutes late. The speed of the train is?

A. 36 kmph

B. 48 kmph

C. 54 kmph

D. 58 kmph

Solution(By Examveda Team)

Train proceeds at 3/4 S where S is his usual speed means 1/4 decrease in the speed which will lead to 1/3 increase in the time.

[As S*T = D, Speed is inversely propotional to time when Distance is constant.]

Now the main difference comes in those 24km and the change in difference of time = 35-25m = 10m.

=> 1/3*T = 10 where T is the time required to cover the distance of (50-74) = 24 km.

T = 30min = 0.5 hours.

Speed of the train = 24/(0.5) = 48kmph.
