Jealous vs Zealous

Jealous characterizes one who may be overly possessive, envious, coveting, or fearful of losing another’s affection. Zealous means passionate or eager pursuit of something.

Jealous

Jealousy is a word we have all used, or rather, an emotion most of us have felt at some point of time. Jealous characterizes a person who is overly possessive or envious. Jealous means: 

1. Feeling or showing fear or resentment of possible rivals in love or affection.

"He was jealous of his wife and suspected her of adultery."

"Her jealous looks annoys me."

2. Envious i.e. Feeling or showing resentment of someone’s advantages, achievements, etc...

"She is jealous of my success in examinations."

"He is jealous of my tremendous success."

3. Possessive, anxiously protective of one’s rights, belongings, etc...

"He keeps a jealous eye on his property."

"I am jealous of my privileges.

Zealous

Zealous, on the other hand, is a super-positive word implying passions, enthusiasm and dedication for something or someone.

Zealous describes someone who is extremely enthusiastic, devoted, impassioned, or dedicated to something or someone. They say when you make the perfect choice, your zeal for work does not end. Zealous is the adjective word for Zeal meaning enthusiasm.

"People are zealous for freedom and liberty."

"I am zealous to succeed at work."

"Mahatma Gandhi was a zealous anti-racist."

"He is zealous for liberty and freedom."

"They are zealous to please their employees."

**A jealous person might be resentful of someone who makes zealous efforts to achieve success.
