Every year 23 June is being observed as the United Nations Public Service Day by the United Nations (UN).
Significance of the Day
The day seeks to mark the invaluable contributions of public servants and administrators to build a better world for all.
On this occasion, the UN will hold a Public Service Awards ceremony to reward the creative achievements and contributions of public service institutions worldwide.
Background
The United Nations Public Service Day was instituted by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) by passing resolution 57/277 on December 20, 2002.
Since then it is observed to encourage member states to organize special events on that day to highlight the contribution of public service in the development process.
This day was created to celebrate the value and virtue of public service to the community and also highlight the contribution of public service in the development process.
It also seeks to recognize the work of public servants and encourage young people to pursue careers in the public sector.
