A train leaving Dhaka at 6 am reaches Mymensingh at 10 am and another train leaving Mymensingh at 7 am reaches dhaka at 12 noon. At what time the two trains running in opposite directions should meet?

Solution (By Examveda Team)

Suppose distance between Dhaka and Mymensingh is 20 kms. Then speed of first train = 20/4= 5 kmph speed of 2nd train = 20/5= 4 kmph If trains met after t hours from 6 AM, then 5t + 4*(t-2) = 20 9t = 28 t = 28/9 hours = 3 hrs 11 mins.

    Dirrection: Opposite

    Let , after t hours of Train A's strat(6.00 a.m) they will meet ,therefore Train B will run for( t-1) Hour as it starts at 7.00 am.

    Take distance = 100

    So, first train's speed = 100/4 = 25kmph

    Second train's speed = 100 /5= 20 kmph

    We can built the equation based on distance covered by both train.

    25*t + 20(t-1) = 100
    45*t= 120
    t=120/45
    t=8/3

    So t hours = 8/3 = 2hrs 40 minutes
    Therefore they will meet at (6+2 hrs 40 min)=8 hrs 40min

    6 to 10 => 4 and 7 to 12 => 5
    Now, MT => (4*5 - 5*1)/(5+4) = 15/9 = 1 hr 40 min
    So, 7 am + 1 hr 40 min = 8:40 am (Ans.)
