A vagabond runs out of cigarettes. He searches for the stubs, having learnt that 7 stubs can make a new cigarette, he gathers 49 stubs, if he smokes 1 cigarette every three fourths of an hour, how long will his supply last?

A. 5.25 hours

B. 6 hours

C. 4.5 hours

D. 3 hours

Answer: Option B

Solution (By Examveda Team)

The idea is that a stub is equal to 1/7 of a cigarette and that only 6/7 of the cigarette is actually smoked.
So he can start by making 7 cigarettes from the 49 stubs.
After smoking those, he will have 7 more stubs left over to make another cigarette. And when that is done he will have one stub remaining.
8 * 3/4 = 6 hours

Answer should be A. Since he has 7 cigs. He smokes the first and then smokes the remaining 6 cigs in 45*6 minutes = 4.5 hr. Then he smokes the final cig after collecting the stubs he just smoked after another 45 minutes . Thus 5.25 hr.
