Air vs Ere Vs Heir

Air is the Earth’s atmosphere; Heir refers to the person who inherits; whereas, Ere means before (in time).

Air

The noun air refers to the invisible mixture of gases that people and animals breathe.

Air can also mean empty space, the outward appearance of a thing, the bearing of a person, and (usually in the plural, airs) an artificial or affected manner.

As a verb, air means to expose (something) to the air, to make known in public, or to transmit by radio or television.

"She enjoyed breathing the fresh air."

"He likes to be in the open air."

"I am not the type of person to air my problems through social sites."

"That place has an air of mystery."

"A very nice radio show is on air these days.

Heir

The noun heir refers to a person who has the legal right to inherit property or to a person who has a right to claim a title (such as king or queen) when the person holding it dies.

The h in heir is not pronounced, making air and heir homophones.

"He was the heir of a nice little fortune."

Note: an "heiress" is a female who inherits, or who will inherit an estate.

Ere

The preposition and conjunction ere is a somewhat old-fashioned word meaning "before."

"She fell ere he could catch her."

"Do some good ere you die."

Enjoy: "Ere I die, the heir to my throne will breathe the air of freedom.”
