Question based on Cause and Effect consist of two statements. out of these two one may be the cause and other may be effect or either these two may be independent cause and/or independent effect of any cause.

the question on cause and effect test mainly designed to decide on a candidate's ability to analyse the pair of given statements and to correlate them in terms of cause and effect. On the basis of the given facts, these five possibilities may arise:

I. Facts in the first statement may be the cause and statement two is its effect.
II. statement two is the cause and statement one is its effect.
III. May be the both given statements are independent cause to each other.
IV. May be the both the statements are effect of independent cause.
V. May be, Both the statements are effects of some common cause.

Examples :

1. Direction : Two statements I and II are given. These statement may be either independent causes or may be effects of independent causes or a common cause. One of these statements may be the effect of the other statements. Read both the statements and decide which of the following answer choice correctly depicts the relationship between these two statements.

Mark answer :
I. The prices of the petroleum products dropped marginally last week.
II. The state Government reduced the tax on petroleum products last week.

Explanation :
A cut in the tax or duty on a certain product is bound to cause a reduction in the price of the product.
Thus, statement II is cause of the effect in Statement I.
