Harmandir Sahib or Golden Temple is located in the central part of old Amritsar. It is popularly known as the Golden Temple. Harmandir Sahib was designed by Guru Arjan, the fifth Sikh Guru and also installed the Adi Granth, holy scripture of Sikhism inside it. The present day Gurdwara was renovated by Jassa Singh in 1764. Maharaja Ranjit Singh covered the upper floors of the Gurdwara with 750 kg of gold in 1830. The architecture of the Harmandir Sahib is a combination of the Hindu and Muslim styles.
