On the recommendation of Shah Commission, Punjab was divided on 1 November, 1966, leading to the formation of Haryana and Himachal Pradesh. Area in the South of Punjab that spoke Haryanvi dialect of Hindi formed as Haryana and the area that spoke Pahari dialects merged to Himachal Pradesh.
