The district of Amritsar in the state is famous for its metal work. A place named Bhandian in Amritsar is a big bazar where all kinds of utensils in different shapes and colours are available. The people who are involved in such work of metal during the early days of this art in the city of Amritsar were known as Chiteras. Various forms of casting, soldering and decoration techniques, such as pierced work, chasing, engraving, etc are used to make metal pots, utensils, objects needed for religious rituals (lamps, trumpet), etc. Decorative items like lamp shades and engraved metal doors are some items which are produced abundantly in the district.
