Islands or floating gardens on the Dal lake in Kashmir are formed from the weeds, after collecting them from the lake itself. Such weeds mostly consist of Typha augustata and Phragmites communis which are in the Kashmiri language known as Pech and Nargasa, respectively.
The floating gardens, known as “Raad” in Kashmiri, blossom with lotus flowers during July and August.
