Veteran communist Khadga Prasad Oli elected Nepal PM

A total of 587 members had cast their votes. Lawmakers were not allowed to stay neutral during the voting

Political turbulence in Nepal appears to be far from over despite the election of veteran communist leader K.P. Sharma Oli on Sunday as the country’s first Prime Minister under the newly introduced constitutional system.
In a tense election, Mr. Oli â of the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist Leninist) â secured 338 votes out of a total of 598. He defeated incumbent Prime Minister Sushil Koirala of the Nepali Congress.

After returning her Sahitya Akademi award last week as a mark of protest against the increasing climate of intolerance in the country, author Nayantara Sahgal has now returned the award money.

Writer Ganesh Devy returns Sahitya Akademi award

Gujarat-based literary critic and author Ganesh N. Devy has returned his Sahitya Akademi award that was given to him in recognition of his book \"After Amnesia\".
Prof. Devy informed the national Sahitya Akademi on Sunday about his decision to return the award citing silence on the brutal killing of rationalist and academician scholar M.M. Kalburgi in August this year and also expressing solidarity with other writers and authors who have returned their awards.

India, Maldives to step up cooperation in defence, security

India and Maldives today decided to ramp up cooperation in various fields including defence, security, energy and health, as the two nations restarted the Joint Commission talks after a hiatus of 15 years.
External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, who is in Male on a two-day visit, assured Maldives that India will always be the net security provider to the Indian Ocean archipelago.
However, she stressed that it is also important to insulate both countries from trends towards radicalisation and terrorism.
Following the meeting, the two sides signed MoUs on cooperation between Foreign Service Institutes of both countries and for cooperation sports and youth affairs.
In her opening remarks of the meeting, which she co-chaired with her Maldivian counterpart Dunya Maumoon, she recalled Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s message to Maldivian President Abdulla Yameen.

Article 370 cannot be touched: J&K court

It embodies conceptual framework of relationship between Union of India and State’

A Division Bench of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court on Saturday described Article 370 as “a permanent provision of the Constitution” and Article 35A as one “giving protection to existing laws.”
The double Bench of the court observed, “The Constituent Assembly [of 1957] is conferred power to recommend to the President that Article 370 be declared to cease to be operative or operate only with the exceptions and modifications. [However] The Constituent Assembly did not make such a recommendation before its dissolution on January 25, 1957.”

Infosys CFO Rajiv Bansal resigns

The company appoints Ranganath D. Mavinakere, as the new Chief Financial Officer.

Infosys on Monday informed the stock exchanges about key managerial changes in the organisation. According to a filing, the company said that Rajiv Bansal who is the Chief Financial Officer of the company stepped down as the CFO and key managerial personnel effective October 12, 2015 (end of business hours) and resigned from the services of the company effective December 31, 2015.
The Board of Directors of the Company in its meeting also appointed Ranganath D. Mavinakere, as the new Chief Financial Officer and Key Managerial Personnel effective October 12, 2015.
Infosys had appointed Rajiv Bansal as the CFO from November 1, 2012 following the movement of the then CFO V Balakrishnan, to Infosys BPO, Finacle and India Business.
Mr Mavinakere, is presently the EVP and head of strategic operations and CEO\'s office. He is associated with the company for over 15 years and is responsible for strategic planning, risk management, mergers & acquisitions and corporate marketing. From January 2008 to July 2013, he was the Chief Risk Officer (CRO).
Further the company also said, the Board approved the 2015 Incentive Compensation Plan, amending the existing 2011 RSU Plan.
