Indian govt\'s new Bharat Operating System likely to replace Microsoft Windows

Indian government is finally set to launch the latest version of its own operating system dubbed as the Bharat Operating System Solutions, also known as BOSS.

The operating system which was originally developed in 2007 by National Resource Centre for Free/Open Source Software is now said to have been developed along with Gujarat Technical University, DRDO and a few private computer geeks being involved.

 However, the latest version of BOSS which is developed by C-DAC (Centre for Development of Advanced Computing) will be unveiled this week.

Certified by the Linux Foundation, the new operating system is said to come with powerful security features and will be able to protect from countless attacks by hackers.

Along with this, the new OS also comes in line with the Digital India movement and Make in India initiatives.

FM to visit Singapore, Hong Kong to woo investors

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley will embark on a 4-day visit to Singapore and Hong Kong on 17th September, to address investor meets and participate in the Singapore Summit.

Jaitley will deliver the keynote address at the Singapore Summit on September 18, which will deliberate on tensions in global economics, implications of the sharp drop in energy prices, and the need for new business models in a Global-Asia business landscape that is changing rapidly.

Chief Economic Adviser Arvind Subramanian too will attend the Singapore Summit and will participate in a session on ’Striving for Growth amidst Global Uncertainty’

In addition, Jaitley is scheduled to address a global investors conference organised by Goldman Sachs in Singapore and Hong Kong, sources said.

During his two-day visit to Hong Kong on September 20 and 21, the Finance Minister will meet global investors and pitch for investment in various sectors, including infrastructure, manufacturing, and Smart Cities.

He will return on September 22.

Saregama introduces app for Hindustani, Carnatic music

Making classical music easily accessible to a large smartphone user base, Saragama India Ltd., an RPG group enterprise, has introduced an exclusive app that opens up a treasure trove of more than 8000 recordings of about 400 stalwarts of Hindustani classical, Carnatic, and fusion music for music lovers.

A galaxy of musicians including Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, Pandit Jasraj, Dr Balamuralikrishna, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Pandit Ajay Pohankar and poet-lyricist-film-maker Gulzar were present at the introduction of the app “Saregama Classical” at a suburban Mumbai hotel on Tuesday.

The app will be available across 172 countries on iOS and Android platforms.

SEBI to conduct nation-wide investor survey

Capital markets regulator Sebi has decided to conduct a nationâwide investor survey to understand investment habits of individuals and households in different parts of the country.

The regulator has commissioned the survey to Nielsen India Pvt Ltd, which would collect information from residents in different states and Union territories.

Sunjeev Sahota on Man Booker Prize shortlist

The British Indian author has won glowing reviews for his novel Year of the Runaways

A British author of Indian descent is one of the six novelists short-listed for the prestigious Man Booker Prize, 2015. The Year of the Runaways is Sunjeev Sahota’s second novel, and centres around the lives of three Indian men â one a Dalit â and a woman, all migrants from India.

The three men are thrown together in a house for migrants in Sheffield, while the woman, a ‘visa-wife’ lives nearby. The novel shines a penetrating light on immigration through the lives of the characters before and after they came to Britain.

Nepal to unveil new Constitution on Sept 20, says Foreign Minister

Nepal on Tuesday said it would unveil its long-awaited new Constitution on September 20, despite the ongoing deadly protests by minority groups over the proposed federal structure.

The Constituent Assembly (CA) has already began clause-by- clause voting on the proposed Constitution, under preparation since 2008, since Sunday and as of now 37 articles have already been endorsed by the 601-member-strong body.
