Nehru museum director quits

Mahesh Rangarajan has stepped down as director of the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library (NMML) as he saw the BJP government questioning the nature of his appointment approved by the previous UPA government on its last legs.

Minister of State for Culture (Independent charge) Mahesh Sharma told journalists on 17th September, that the Executive Council of the NMML under the chairmanship of Lokesh Chandra had accepted Dr. Rangarajan’s offer to quit on 16th September.

The Supreme Court on Thursday refused a Jain community organisation\'s plea to set aside the stay order issued by the Bombay High Court on a State government notification banning sale of meat and slaughter in Mumbai during Paryurshan festival. It noted that meat bans cannot be \"shoved down someone\'s throat\".

Ashoka stupa restored in China

A 2,000-year-old lost stupa, one of 19 built with Lord Buddha’s relics sent by Emperor Ashoka to China, has been restored with religious rites by an Indian monk in this remote Tibetan town.

A symbol of the advent of Buddhism from India to China, the renovated stupa and Ashoka pillar were consecrated by Gyalwang Drukpa, the spiritual head of Drukpa lineage of Buddhism based in Ladakh, on Tuesday in China\'s Qinghai province.

Net neutrality: Facebook won\'t withdraw controversial Internet.org from India

Social media giant Facebook said on Thursday that it will not withdraw its controversial zero-rated platform Internet.org from India despite scathing criticism from a top government committee, but will rather open it up further to newer telecom operators in order to provide internet access to the unconnected.

Kevin Martin, vice president for Facebook\'s Mobile and Global Access Policy, emphasized that Internet.org \"does not violate the principles of net neutrality,\" especially as it offers an opportunity to all developers if they provide lighter versions that use limited bandwidth.
