The first Indian to become a permanent judge of ICJ was Sir Benegal Narsingh Rau. He became the permanent judge at ICJ in the year 1952 and held this post until his death in the year 1953. Sir B.N. Rau was an Indian Civil Servant. He was one of the pivotal figures in drafting the Constitution of India. He was also a permanent representative to the UN from India.
