Fruit on the basis of respiration can be classified as

Fruit based on respiration can be classified as Climacteric and Non-Climacteric.
Climacteric fruits can ripen fully if they are harvested after their growth period. Eg.: Mango, Banana, Sapota, Guava, Papaya and Apple etc.
On the other hand, non-climacteric fruits can ripe fully only if they are allowed to remain attached to the parent plant. Eg: Citrus, Grape, Jamun, Strawberry, Pineapple, etc.
