Gentle vs Genteel

Genteel means excessively fashionable, well-dressed, graceful, elegant, well-bred.

Gentle means well-born, mild, kind, careful, not rough, not violent, not severe.

Genteel

Genteel means refined, polite, and well-bred. Genteel is an adjective, derived from the Middle French word 'gentil' which means 'stylish, elegant, graceful, pleasing.'

"Kiran is very genteel in her manners."

"They consider themselves very genteel when they have company for tea."

"There seems to be a lot of gossip, even in this genteel company."

Gentle

Gentle means having a mild manner or character, not harsh in temperate. Gentle may also describe a slight slope or easily tamed animal.

Gentle may be used as an adjective or a verb, related words are gentles, gentled, gentling. An archaic use of gentle is to describe someone of noble birth or someone who is chivalrous.

"This boy is as gentle as a lamb."

"Rahul is a gentle boy."

"He is a doctor who is gentle with his hands.

A gentle breeze is blowing.
