In the 1^st century BC, a new dynasty known as the Cheti or Chedi Dynasty arose in Kalinga. We learned about it via the Hathigumpha inscription near Bhubaneshwar, Orissa. Kharavela, the third emperor of the Chedi Dynasty, etched the inscription. Kahravela was a Jainism adherent.
