'Rayagopuram' means grand entrance tower of the temple Vijaynagar King Krishnadeva Raya constructed 'Rayagopurams' in front of the temples at Hampi, Tiruvannamalai, Chidambaram Srirangam, Tirupati etc.
The Battle of Talikota (23 January 1565) was a watershed battle fought between the Vijayanagara Empire and the Deccan sultanates. The Vijaynagar Kingdom was defeated in this battle.
