Hola is descended from Hindi word halla which means a military charge and the word mohalla means a planned parade. Hola Mohalla is celebrated in the month of March in Anandpur Sahib. It was started by Guru Gobind Singh in AD 1700. The fair begins a few days before Holi and is marked by the congregation of Sikhs from all over the state, who arrive on trucks and tractors. A large number of 'Langars' (community kitchen) are setup to provide free food to all.
