In the past, there was no structure of formal education system in Ladakh except Buddhist monasteries. Here, one son per family was given lesson to learn Tibetan script and to read the Holy scriptures. For other children, informal system of teaching like how to work in farms, how to practice Ladakhi cultures was given.
