The National Botanical Garden was built by Nawab Saadat Ali Khan in the year 1800. Then Nawab Wajid Ali shah who was the last king of Avadh, who made and improved the garden and used it as summer palace. He named it as Sikandar Bagh after his lovely queen Sikandar Mahal. The National Botanical Research Institute (NBRI) is a research institute of CSIR in Lucknow. It is engaged in the field of taxonomy and modern biology.
