India gained freedom from British rule on 15th August 1947. It was decided to divide India into two parts i.e. India and Pakistan. When India became independent, the ruler of a princely state could enter into a standstill agreement with either or both of the independent dominions, India and Pakistan. Maharaja Hari Singh could not decide at that time as there were lot of conflicts faced between Hindus and Muslims.
