Premiere vs Premier

Premier refers to someone first in status, rank or importance; principal or chief; whereas,

Premiere refers to a first public performance or showing of a play, opera, film, etc.

Explanation:

Premiere, with an e at the end, refers to the first public performance or showing of something, such as a movie or play. It can be a noun or a verb—for example, a movie premieres at its premiere.

"To walk the red carpet at a movie premiere is a dream for many."

The crowd at the theatre was unmanageable on the eve of the movie premiere."

"The ballet premiered last week and was a giant success."

Premier, without the e, is

1. an adjective meaning first in status, position, rank or importance.

"The Beatles were the premier rock-and-roll band of the 1960s."

"He was the premier lawyer of his times."

"The Vedic Village is the premier spa resort of Kolkata."

2. a noun denoting a prime minister or a chief administrative officer.

"The British premier was not satisfied with the trade deal."

"The prime minister was briefed on the case before meeting the Spanish premier."

Trick to remember the difference:

1) If you associate the word premiere with the word ‘movie’, both of which end in the letter E, you will be set to never mix up these two words.

2) Since, the word premiere is primarily used for referring to first shows of plays, movies etc; you can also associate the word premierE with Entertainment.

Just for fun: “The premier went to the movie premiere.”
