The Rajya Sabha approved the Institutes of Technology (Amendment) Bill, 2016, which was passed by the Lok Sabha earlier.
As a result, new IITs will soon come up in Jammu, Tirupati, Palakkad (Kerala), Goa, Dharwad (Karnataka) and Bhilai (Chhattisgarh).
IITs are centres of excellence and would continue to remain so. It will not allow anything that will lower their standards. Actually It all should try to improve further and make really world class institutes.
