Red soil, Black soil, is largely found in Madhya Pradesh. These soils are black in colour and are also known as regur soils. They cover the plateaus of Maharashtra, Saurashtra, Malwa, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.

A Morena district of Madhya Pradesh is facing the problem of soil erosion. In Birahrua, Morena district, Madhya Pradesh, ravines are everywhere. They have swallowed up fields and are now ravaging hutments.

Regur soil is also known as black soil. Black soil is ideal for growing cotton and is known as black cotton soil. They are rich in soil nutrients, such as calcium carbonate, magnesium, potash and lime. These soils are generally poor in phosphoric contents.

Red-Yellow soil is the second soil group in Madhya Pradesh. It is found in the entire eastern part of the state that is Baghelkhand. a. Black soil - Malwa
Black soils are derivatives of trap lava. Black soils spread across Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Madhya Pradesh on the Deccan lava plateau and the Malwa.

b. Red-Yellow soil - Bundelkhand
Red-yellow soil is mainly found in Bundelkhand and Baghelkhand region. It is found around 37% area of Madhya Pradesh.

c. Laterite soil - Morena
Laterite, soil layer that is rich in iron oxide and derived from a wide variety of rocks weathering under strongly oxidizing and leaching conditions. It forms in tropical and subtropical regions where the climate is humid.

d. Alluvial soil - Shivpuri
Alluvial soil is mostly found in the northwest part of Madhya Pradesh, mainly Morena district, Bhind district, Gwalior district and Shivpuri district. It is spread over a large area in the frontier region of the Gangetic Valley, which is made of Bundelkhand gneiss and soil deposited by the Chambal River and its tributaries.
