Uttar Pradesh is the most important cash crop in the state. Uttar Pradesh ranks first in the terms of production of sugarcane in the country. It is sown on the 13% of the total cultivable land in the state.

Uttar Pradesh is the highest sugarcane producing State in sub tropical zone having area about 22.77 Lakh ha with the production of 135.64 Million Ton cane whereas Haryana has highest productivity of sugarcane in Sub tropical zone.

Uttar Pradesh is the second largest rice producing state with almost 5.86 million hectare land under rice cultivation producing about 12.5 million tonnes of rice.

Cotton is grown in the state in the Ganga - Yamuna Doab, Rohilkhand and Bundelkhand regions with the help of irrigation. Hamirpur is the largest producer of gram in the state. Mustard is the largest growing crop in the state among all the oilseeds crops. Uttar Pradesh is the second largest producer of mustard in India after Rajasthan.

Hamirpur is the largest producer of Arhar crop.

Kharif crop seeds are sown in the beginning of the monsoon season (May to July). After maturation, these crops are harvested at the end of the monsoon season from September to October.
