Telangana has become the first State in the country to introduce compulsory gender education at the graduate level. In this regard, state government has introduced bilingual textbook titled Towards a World of Equals on a pilot basis in engineering colleges.
These engineering colleges are affiliated to the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU-Hyderabad).
Features of gender education textbook
It discusses gender in its composite form without limiting itself to crime against women without repeating gender stereotypes.
It touches upon complex subjects like male-female relationships and female-centric history. It has been structured into simple language to suit under-graduates.
It also covers different strands of women’s movements across the world along with political movements of Afro-American, African, Caribbean, minority and Dalit women.
