Morarji Desai (1896–1995) was the fourth Prime Minister of India and the first non-Congress leader to hold this position (1977–1979). He was a key figure in the Janata Party coalition that emerged victorious after the Emergency (1975–1977).

Known for his integrity and discipline, Desai was a staunch advocate of democracy and anti-corruption. His tenure focused on improving India’s relations with neighboring countries, particularly Pakistan, with the signing of the Simla Agreement.

He also promoted economic liberalization and was awarded the Nishan-e-Pakistan, Pakistan's highest civilian award, for fostering peace.

Morarji Desai’s simplicity and firm principles made him a respected leader, and his legacy is commemorated at Abhay Ghat, his memorial in Ahmedabad.
