The earliest tools were made mainly by pebbles of quartz and quartzite. Some importatnt sites of tool-making are Egra Mail (Burdwan), Parihati, Mohanpur, Satbati, Tarapheni resorvoir bridge (all in Midnapore), Nakbindhi, Patina, Jibdharipur (Birbhum), Jagannathpuri, etc.
