The Farakka barrage is constructed on the Bhagirathi-Hooghly river. A dam has been constructed at Tildanga where the Ganga's main stream is channelised to Bhagirathi-Hooghly at Jangipur barraf=ge which is the unit of the Farakka barrage. The barrage diverts 1100 cubic metres per second of water from the Ganges to the Hooghly river.
