There are two departments for development of Animal Husbandry in Jammu and Kashmir, one is for Jammu and the other is for Kashmir. The Kashmir Animal Husbandry Department was established in the year 1927 by the then Maharaja of Jammu and Kashmir. The main objectives of the departments are to improve the livestock of the states and socio-economic upliftment of the poor farmers.
