The entire region of Ladakh receives water for irrigation from Indus and its tributaries as well as Nullah, Drass, Suru, Kangi and Wakha rivers. In this region, the construction of tubewells is possible due to the presence of thick rocks. In Ladakh region, there are several small canals, locally known as Mayur. These canals (Mayurs) play a vital role in the agricultural landuse of Ladakh.
