Jammu and Kashmir has only 30% of the reporting area under cultivation yet agriculture supports around 70% of the population. The cold desert region of Ladakh gives little scope of cultivation. However, the climatic diversity from sub-tropical to temperate to cold provides a variety of crops, fruits, vegetables and flowers to these regions.
