The perimeter of an isosceles triangle is equal to 14 cm; the lateral side is to the base in the ratio 5:4. The area of the triangle is :

Solution (By Examveda Team)

Let lateral side = (5x)cm and base = (4x) cm
5x+5x+4x=14 or x = 1
So, the sides are 5 cm, 5 cm and 4 cm
Semi perimeter, S = 1/2(5+5+4)cm = 7cm.
(s-a)=2cm, (s-b)=2cm and (s-c)=3cm
Area of triangle
= √(s(s-a)(s-b)(s-c))
= √(7×2×2×3)
= 2√21
