The probosis in the mouth parts of the butterfly is formed from Galea of maxillae.
A long, slender proboscis is formed by the two galeae of the maxillae which interlock to enclose a central food canal. Only galea of maxillae of the two sides joins to form a long coiled proboscis.
Butterflies and moths have mouthparts specialized for probing into a flower and sucking out nectar.
