A new act viz the Punjab Panchayati Raj Act, 1994 (Punjab Act Number 9 of 1994) has been enacted to replace the Punjab Gram Panchayat Act, 1952 and the Punjab Panchayat Samitis and Zila Parishad Act, 1961. The act came into force on 21 April, 1994.
