The West Bengal Colour Film and Sound Laboratory Corporation Limited was set-up for the development of film industry in West Bengal. It came into existence on 5th July, 1980. Subsequently, the name was changed to West Bengal Film Development Corporation Limited (WBFDC) on 1st July, 1983.
WBFDC was re-established in the year 1986 and was named Rupayan by Satyajit Ray.
