Two universally accepted Mendel's laws are the Law of segregation and the Law of independent assortment.
The Law of Segregation of genes applies when two individuals, both heterozygous for a certain trait are crossed, for example, hybrids of the F₁-generation.
The Principle of Independent Assortment describes how different genes independently separate from one another when reproductive cells develop. An Independent assortment of genes and their corresponding traits was first observed by Gregor Mendel in 1865 during his studies of genetics in pea plants.
