Upma Chowdhary named first woman director of LBSNAA

Upma Chowdhary was appointed as new Director of Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) at Mussoorie.

She will be the 23rd director and first woman director of LBSNAA. She will replace Rajeev Kapoor. Upma Chowdhary is a 1983 batch IAS officer of Himachal cadre.

Currently, she is posted as Additional Chief Secretary in Himachal Pradesh. During her 33 years’ service as an IAS officer, she had served in several positions in the state and at the centre.

About Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA)

LBSNAA is India’s premier institution dedicated to training Officers of the country’s higher civil services.

It was established in 1959 in Mussoorie, Uttarakhand as the National Academy of Administration by merging the IAS Training School, Delhi and IAS Staff College, Shimla.

Mission: Promote good governance, by providing quality training for building a professional and responsive civil service in a caring, ethical and transparent framework.

Mandate: (i) Induction level training to members of All India Services and Central Services (Group A) through a common Foundation Course (ii) Induction-level and post-entry professional training for officers of IAS including mid-career training programmes (iii) Other in-service training programmes for the IAS and other services.
