Karimnagar region was originally called as Elagandala. It was ruled by Western Chalukyas and was also part of the great Satavahana Empire. Later, the Nizams of Hyderabad changed the name of this region to Karimnagar, which was derived from the name Syed Karimullah Shah Saheb Quiladar.
